Three ways mindfulness can help you be more productive at work

When you think of mindfulness, then there is a good chance that you will instantly think of how it can be beneficial in your personal life. It has to be said that mindfulness can do plenty of great things for you emotionally, but the benefits that this practice can have goes so much deeper than that.

It has been discovered that mindfulness, when practised at work or before work, can impact how productive you are day to day. Not only this, but it can help reduce feelings of stress that are associated with work and make sure that you feel happier with your working life.

To delve into this a little bit deeper, here are three ways mindfulness can help you become more productive at work.

It helps you to ignore distractions

When you don’t want to do certain things (such as being at work), it can be too easy to become distracted and not focus. When you practise mindfulness, you are also practising your ability to ignore any distractions that may come your way.

Ignoring distractions means that you can be much more focused on the job you are trying to do and give your all rather than looking around at all the other things surrounding you.

Focus on one task at a time

Multi-tasking is something that many of us will list on our CVs, but is multi-tasking always the best way to approach things? Sure, there will be times when you need to juggle a few things at once, but, for the most part, mindfulness shows us that we should have times when we focus on one thing at a time.

The reason to do this is that it is much harder than you may think to focus on multiple things at once. Instead, it is a much better idea to try and give your all to one thing before moving on to the next.

Otherwise, you may find out that the projects and tasks you have tried to tackle whilst thinking about others end up being finished in a sloppy and low-quality way.

It helps you to plan for the next day

We know that mindfulness is more around the idea of looking at the present, but this doesn’t mean that you cannot think about what is coming up in the future for your working day. Before you go home, you can take a few minutes to see what is left on your to-do list for tomorrow.

You can take the opportunity to consider what is the most important for you to get done during the next day and plan your time accordingly.

Not only this, but you can also see just how much you have managed to achieve already in one day and remind yourself that you have done very well.

These are just some ways that you can find mindfulness to be helpful in your working life. All you need to do is try and find a way to meditate before you head out in the morning, and you will feel so much brighter and ready to take on all the things that come your way during the day.
